Welcome to the web site of the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia in Washington, D.C. The responsibilities of the Embassy of the Republic of Namibia are as follows:

• represent the President, the Government and the people of Namibia
• maintain, promote and further strengthen the relations that so happily exist between Namibia and the countries of our accreditation: the Bahamas, Canada, Guatemala, Mexico Panama and United States of America, respectively
• defend and protect the interest of Namibia; and that of our nationals in these countries, within the limits permitted by the international law

In view of our policy of economic diplomacy, the Embassy continues to market Namibia as the most excellent destination for tourists and an ideal country for trade and investment. The search for study opportunities for our people in the institutes of higher learning and promoting student exchange programs in the countries of our accreditation remain high on the agenda.

The Embassy also maintains a task of endless appeal to the Governments of : the Bahamas, Canada, Guatemala, Mexico Panama and United States of America and to the caring people in these countries to assist with funds, medicine, etc, for the HIV/AIDS victims in our country.

After over 100 years of foreign rule, Namibia gained independence on March 21, 1990. At independence, Namibia adopted a constitution, the supreme law of the land entrenches multiparty, democracy, as well as fundamental rights and freedom. The constitution guarantees the citizens the right of expression and the freedom of association. Since independence, Namibia has maintained an environment conducive to a free press and remains committed to a free market economic system and recognizes the role of the private sector in the development process.

Namibia is truly one of the most politically stable countries in Africa, that peace and tranquility is real and the footprint of democracy is visible, ie. general, presidential, regional and local elections are held every five years. The Government and people of Namibia are committed to democracy and respect the rule of law. Namibia has a rich ethnic diversity and today they are united as one. The Government’s policy of national reconciliation has worked.

For tourism, I invite you to go and experience the fantastic diversity of plant and animal life found due largely to the strikingly different climate and landforms found in Namibia. Whatever your destination, no two days will be the same. Each region of the country has something special to offer, inspired by the elements, the surroundings and natural materials. Visit Namibia and experience all the country’s natural wonders and resources. Its low crime rate, breathtaking landscapes and clean environment make it an attractive place to visit.

I further invite you to take advantage of the excellent opportunities Namibia offers in sectors such as agriculture, health, education, fishing, mining, manufacturing and tourism. Having created an ideal business environment, Namibia has put forth highly competitive incentives and fiscal regime. The Foreign Investment Act and its provision for a Certificate of Status Investment, the Special Incentives for Manufacturers and Exporters and the Export Processing Zone Incentives form the foundation of this regime. Namibia is peaceful, stable with first class road, rail, air infrastructure, excellent telecommunications network and a port that is strategically located. It has a reliable good quality power supply with inter-continental market access. Namibia also has a stable foreign exchange reserves as well as low inflation.
